Are you all recovering from your weekends? I thought I would do a quick little pregnancy update since I’m finally out of my first trimester and on week 15 of my pregnancy. Since Chris and I announced our pregnancy and told you all about the exciting news, I’ve been so touched by all the love and support. Thank you all for your sweet comments and encouragement. I’m not going to do weekly updates on my pregnancy, but I thought I’d start doing an update every month or so.
First Trimester Symptoms
At week 6, morning sickness kicked in. Every morning I’d feel like I was going to be sick and sometimes I was sick. I also felt waves of nausea throughout the day. Even though I felt sick as a dog, I also was so hungry and I felt like I couldn’t get enough food in me. I couldn’t help but crave all the unhealthy food out there like pizza, fries, doughnuts, and anything greasy. I didn’t think it was possible to feel like you’re going to throw up and crave pizza all that the same time, but I’m telling you it is.
From week 6 to week 12 I was so tired I felt like I could hardly get through the day. It was an exhaustion on a whole new level. Those of you who have had kids before probably know what I’m talking about. After 8:30 pm all I wanted to do was go to bed.
at week 10 I started breaking out on my face. Did any of you guys break out while pregnant? Any solutions?
By week 13 I had gained three to four pounds and weighed around 122 lbs. Earlier this year I lost a bit of weight. When I first got married I weighed around 128 lbs and right before I got pregnant I weighed 118-119 (I’m 5’6″ for reference.) I didn’t workout much my first trimester and I ate whatever I thought I could keep down. After week 6 of pregnancy hit me with morning sickness and exhaustion I stopped going to the gym.
Then, miraculously at the end of week 13, I started to feel a little better. I wasn’t as tired and my morning sickness finally went away. With this new found energy, I feel like I can actually function throughout the whole day. I started going to the gym again and I’ve been trying to eat a little healthier this past week.
I’ve had two doctor’s appointments so far. One at 7 weeks and the other at 11 weeks. On my first visit, they did an ultrasound because I had told them I had a very small amount of spotting and they wanted to make sure the baby was doing okay. They said it was probably just some implantation spotting, but they wanted to do an ultrasound to make sure it wasn’t anything else. I was able to see my sweet little baby on the screen and hear the heartbeat for the first time. It was such an amazing moment. The doctor printed out a picture and I held it to my chest.
On my second visit, I did another ultrasound because my doctor had a hard time picking up the heartbeat on the heart monitor. With both ultrasounds, they said the baby’s heartbeat is healthy and strong and that everything looks like it’s progressing perfectly. Also on my second appointment, I got my blood drawn for genetic testing and to find out the gender. We found out we are having a baby girl on June 1oth.
I’m so excited for this new chapter in my life and glad things have gone smoothly so far. It was a pretty bumpy start, but I decided my goal is to have a happy and healthy pregnancy for me and the baby.
