Hi, guys! For my last semester in college, I had to do a symbolic painting. I chose to do my painting on the constant cycle of life, the balance between life and death, and how death can bring new life. The below painting is what I came up with. In this painting, the flowers represent life or new beginnings while the skeleton represents death. The dark background represents the unknown while the blue in the center is representing hope.
I had so much fun doing this painting that I decided to do a whole series of paintings that were similar. I didn’t care so much about the symbolic side of the paintings; I just loved painting the flowers and bones together. To me, this was the perfect little combo. These flower and skeleton paintings have a Day of the Dead vibe. I love the bright flowers juxtaposed against the dark backgrounds and ivory skeletal structures. The variations of color and textures make each painting engaging and full of interest.
