Winter is not my favorite season. I feel like I’m constantly battling the cold and I miss the sun. One thing that makes winter bearable is having a nice warm coat. Not all coats are created equal and it’s important to find one that will fit you and your needs perfectly. Here are a few things to consider before you make your coat purchase:
Finding The Perfect Winter Coat
Keep it Timeless – If you’re going to invest in a high-quality coat, then chances are you won’t have to buy another one for quite some time. Avoid super trendy styles because you’ll probably want to wear your coat again next year. Look for neutral colors and simple designs. Save your money for quality and warmth and look for cheaper trendy pieces.
Look For Quality – Some coats are made from cheap acrylics and some so-called wool coats are really made of mostly nylon and spandex. Polyester is not a very warm material. Wool and down coats, on the other hand, can be especially warm. Make sure to look for quality and check out the labels.
Know Your Body – Try on a variety of different fits and styles to find out what looks most flattering on you. Think about the length, puffiness, whether it’s hooded, button up, or tie down.
Prioritize Function over Fashion – Some coats might look chic, but lack the basics. Why have a coat if it doesn’t keep you warm? Make sure your coat has pockets, is warm, and comfortable.
Leave Room For Layers – It’s important to leave a little extra room for layers. Some days are colder than others and if you can’t zip your coat up because you have a bulky sweater on, you’ll be sad. Some coats have plenty of room around the waist, but the sleeve will be really tight. Make sure your coat it a good fit before you invest in one.
What do you look for in a coat? What’s your winter must have? Hope you all have a great Monday!
